Alkacon OpenCms "filePath" Cross-Site Scripting and File Disclosure

Sunday, 16 March 2008

Description:
nnposter has discovered some vulnerabilities in Alkacon OpenCms, which can be exploited by malicious users to disclose potentially sensitive information and malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

1) Input passed to the "filePath" parameter in opencms/system/workplace/admin/workplace/logfileview/logfileViewSettings.jsp is not properly sanitised before being returned to an administrator. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in an administrator's browser session in context of an affected site.

2) Input passed to the "filePath" parameter in opencms/system/workplace/admin/workplace/logfileview/logfileViewSettings.jsp is not properly verified before being used to display files, which can be exploited to disclose the content of arbitrary files.

Successful exploitation requires valid administrator credentials.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 7.0.4. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Restrict access to trusted users. Do not visit untrusted site while being logged in.
